The Dark Knight: An Average Joe Review

So I saw The Dark Knight last night in IMAX. Big surprise… who HASN’T seen that movie? I won’t bore you with how much money that movie made and how its breaking every record known to man… Instead I’m going to give you my review.

First off, I’m not sure the extra $5 was worth it to see it in IMAX. Yeah the video quality was great, but I thought IMAX screen’s were huuuuge. Last time I saw a movie in IMAX was when I was 15 on a school field trip. From my young memory, I thought IMAX screen’s were like twice the size of your standard theater screen. Guess I was wrong.

I’ve never read Batman comics growing up. If Batman wasn’t wearing a cape in the movie, I wouldn’t know what was going. I went into that movie expecting something to entertain me, which it did.

Plot:
Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker. My Review:
Once again, I know nothing about Batman or what lies beneath each drawing in every comic book. I did have high expectations for this movie as everyone has been raving about it for the last 2 weeks. Overall, I was thoroughly please with that movie. I haven’t seen such a great action movie that kept my attention for the whole movie, in a long time. I didn’t feel like the movie was too long, it did clock in at 2 hours and 30 minutes though. I felt like there was enough action to hold my attention the whole time. Overall, I left the movie theater happy and wouldn’t mind seeing the movie again.

Natural Selection, Where Art Thou?

A quote from my roommate, “If natural selection still existed there would be less retards walking around.” These people wouldn’t make the cut…

If you’re already driving on the sidewalk, why continue?

Didn’t your mom ever tell you not to ride inside?

Segway’s are supposed to be fairly stable. Only this guy and President Bush

I just watched this episode earlier this week. This guy is seriously retarded. He screws up on 3 puzzles. Don’t they have a screening process to keep these people off T.V.?

Movie Review: Wall-E

With movie theaters having special promotions during the week, I decided to take advantage and go see Wall-E for $6… beats the usual $10.50 ticket price. I had fairly high expectations for this movie has its from the ever popular Pixar company.

Plot:
In a distant, but not so unrealistic future, where mankind has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the corrupt and powerful multi-national Buy N Large corporation, WALL-E, a garbage collecting robot has been left to clean up the mess. Mesmerized with trinkets of earth’s history and show tunes, WALL-E is alone on Earth except for a sprightly pet cockroach. One day, Eve, a sleek (and dangerous) reconnaissance robot, is sent to earth to find proof that life is once again sustainable. WALL-E falls in love with Eve. WALL-E rescues Eve from a dust storm and shows her a living plant he found amongst the rubble. Consistent with her “directive” Eve takes the plant and automatically enters a deactivated state except for a blinking green beacon. WALL-E, doesn’t understand what has happened to his new friend, but true to his love, he protects her from wind, rain, and lightening, even as she is unresponsive. One day a massive ship comes to reclaim Eve, but WALL-E, out of love or loneliness hitches a ride on the outside of the ship to rescue Eve. The ship arrives back at a large space cruise ship, which is carrying all of the humans who evacuated earth 700 years earlier. The people of earth ride around this space resort on hovering chairs which give them a constant feed of TV and video chatting. They drink all of their meals through a straw out of laziness and are all so fat that they can barely move. When Buy N Large tries to prevent the people of earth from returning, by stealing the plant, WALL-E, Eve, the portly captain, and a band of broken robots stage a mutiny. (From IMDB.com)

My Review:
Wall-E is the modern-day curious George. Always curious about what is going on around him and what everything does. There isn’t much dialog throughout the movie as the Wall-E and Eve can’t really communicate verbally (you have to pay attention to this movie), so they interact with actions. It took me awhile to actually get into the movie as I didn’t know what direction the movie was going to go in. However, the movie was funny and held my attention throughout its entirety. I can’t say it had the draw of Finding Nemo or Toy Story for me, but its definitely another great Pixar film to see.

My Rating:

As always, there’s a short film before each Pixar movie. Below is preview from the short film Presto. (Youtube removed the full version.)
